Who can contact the Provincial Practice Advisor?

Although associates and associate brokers are encouraged to initially seek the advice of their broker, the Provincial Practice Advisor will take questions and provide advice to all members of AREA.

Members of the public should discuss transactional issues with their REALTOR®, and contact the office of the broker which the REALTOR® is registered with if escalated issues arise. The Provincial Practice Advisor can provide general real estate advice to members of the public, but they will be asked to seek out a REALTOR® or their broker for specific help.

Other industry stakeholders can contact the Provincial Practice Advisor in all areas intersecting real estate practice. The Provincial Practice Advisor works closely with local real estate associations, the provincial regulator, the Real Estate Insurance Exchange and others to ensure accurate and coordinated advice and practice in the Alberta real estate industry.

Important things to know when contacting the Practice Advisor

AREA’s Provincial Practice Advisor welcomes questions from all industry stakeholders. Members of the public should seek out the services of a professional REALTOR® to have their questions and concerns addressed in a more specific way.

AREA’s Provincial Practice Advisor does not provide legal advice. Anyone who has legal concerns, disputes, or opinions should seek appropriate advice from a trained real estate lawyer.

AREA’s Provincial Practice Advisor does not provide counsel related to taxes, GST, or other financially pertinent information. Although the Practice Advisor can discuss situations in which these issues could become relevant, individuals will be advised to contact a professional accountant or similar professional.

Our membership work and live in Alberta, which we acknowledge as the traditional and ancestral lands of many peoples presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8 – namely the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika), the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda and the Tsuu T’ina Nation, and the Métis People of Alberta. We recognize the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today, and those who have gone before. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those on whose territory we reside.
