AREA’s Annual General Meeting will take place Tuesday, January 21, 2020, from noon – 1:30 pm in Red Deer at the Cambridge Hotel and Conference Centre (3310 50 Avenue).
An agenda, the audited financials and the annual report will be made available in January. For those who are unable to attend in person, we will be sharing details for how to participate remotely.
The AGM will include these items:
1. Board of Directors – Slate of Recommended Candidates
The AREA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the following slate of candidates to fill the three vacant positions on the Board of Directors:
The bios of each candidate can be found here.
At the 2018 AGM, members approved changes to the process by which directors are chosen for AREA’s Board of Directors. This is the first year for this new process.
AREA opened the call for applications in September. A Nominating Committee of appointees from the local Boards/Associations reviewed all applications, shortlisted and interviewed candidates, and recommended a slate of candidates to the Board of Directors. AREA’s Board of Directors accepted and endorsed the Nominating Committee’s slate of candidates.
Should any voting member object to this recommendation, they may raise their objection with the 2020 Chair, Kristie Kruger, no later than January 6, 2020. If no objections are raised, the slate of candidates will be acclaimed at the AGM.

2. Bylaw Revisions
At the AGM, members will be asked to vote on proposed changes to the bylaws. These changes are primarily housekeeping and are being recommended to align the bylaws with an ongoing AREA and local Board/Association initiative to create a provincial administrative justice program.
The program will create a fair and consistent administrative justice experience for all members in the province, regardless of geography.
