COVID-19: Understanding New COVID-19 Restrictions for Brokers

Posted on September 16, 2021 by AREA Communications in News

Yesterday, the Government of Alberta announced new restrictions in an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19. We have received questions from broker members about what these restrictions mean for their businesses. The requirements include:

  • Masks must be worn in all indoor workplaces, except while alone at workstations.
  • Mandatory work-from-home measures are in place unless you, as an employer, require employees to maintain a physical presence in the office when it is required for operational effectiveness.
  • Physical distancing is mandatory in all indoor public spaces and workplaces.
  • Starting Monday, businesses may participate in an optional Restrictions Exemption Program. Participation in the program still requires people to wear masks. Under the program, people over age 12 may be served only if they have:
    • Proof of vaccination
    • Documentation of medical exemption
    • Proof of a privately-paid PCR or rapid test within 72 hours of service

Businesses that do not participate in the Restrictions Exemption Program, must restrict workplaces to 1/3 fire code occupancy.
