COVID-19 Updates

Last updated: February 4, 2021.

Latest Recommendations

With the ever changing nature of this situation we recommend referring to AREA's showing tips and best practice protocols.

  • A public health emergency was declared on November 24, 2020, and new mandatory measures to bend the curve of cases are in effect. Learn more on the Government of Alberta's website.
  • AREA has reinstated the ban on in-person open houses for REALTORS® as professional service providers. The Alberta government mandated that professional services businesses, such as lawyers and accountants, be able to work by appointment only. Showings can continue with appointment only and limited to two family-unit members at a time.
  • Masks are mandatory in all indoor public spaces and workplaces.
  • Working from home is mandatory when physical presence is not required.
  • Face-to-face interaction should be avoided whenever possible and when not possible, extreme caution should always be exercised. Utilize online meeting tools such as Zoom and Skype to interact with clients.
  • All indoor social gatherings – public and private – are prohibited. Outdoor social gatherings are limited to 10 people maximum and must not have an indoor component.
  • Educate your clients on online tools which allow them to explore the market from the comfort of their homes.
  • If you have the onset of a fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, conjunctivitis, gastrointestinal symptoms, or any other cold or flu-like symptoms, stay home for 10 days. Should you continue to feel unwell after 10 days, continue to self isolate. Use Alberta Health Services online assessment tool to determine your next steps.
  • Subscribe for special edition episodes the In Your AREA Podcast, which include tips and tricks for navigating the COVID-19 pandemic as a REALTOR®, with the latest on our Learning During COVID-19 page.

With a growing number of instances of COVID-19 in Alberta, there are various questions and concerns from members regarding how to proceed with their business during the pandemic. It is important to us to preserve the health and safety of our members, our staff, and the public, and we will continue to communicate regularly as we work to navigate through this challenging time.

We are committed to maintaining open lines of communication during this time and will be monitoring developments related to the virus and will be updating this page as we receive more information.

Real estate agent services are considered professional service providers by the Government of Alberta and can continue to operate at locations accessible to the public, ensuring that they implement appropriate sanitation and social distancing measures.
