March 9, 2021 – Government has moved into Step 2 of its path forward plan, lifting some COVID-19 restrictions. Professional services, such as real estate, must still be offered by appointment only and indoor gatherings are still prohibited.
Many REALTORS® have taken inventive approaches to adhere to open house guidelines, while still offering a service to clients that approximates open houses, such as virtual tours and appointment-only viewing hours. Some members have called preset viewing hours “appointment only open houses.”
So long as there are no overlaps between appointments, presetting a window during which appointments will be taken still fulfils the government directive to professional service providers. Any advertisements must clearly indicate that appointments are required.
As a reminder:
Government is expected to lift more restrictions as early as March 22. AREA expects the upcoming change will allow the lifting of open house restrictions. We will continue to keep you updated.
If you have concerns about a peer’s adherence to these rules, we encourage you to alert your broker and consider submitting a professional standards complaint to firstname.lastname@example.org.
