As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on AREA's efforts, achievements, and unwavering commitment to supporting our members.

In the aftermath of the devastating wildfire in Jasper, our board graciously approved a $100,000 donation to the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion. This contribution is intended to help the community as it begins the challenging process of rebuilding and recovery. 

Advocacy stood at the forefront of AREA’s accomplishments this year. In November, we hosted our largest Government Liaison Days to date, with more than 500 REALTORS® in attendance. It was a remarkable opportunity to witness effective advocacy in action and the power of our collective voice. Additionally, we secured a significant win when the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction directed RECA to adhere to the plain language definition of Section 54 regarding lifetime withdrawals. 

Looking ahead, AREA has assumed leadership of the pension task force, previously led by CREA. With full commitment, our board has already allocated $4 million to this initiative, ensuring our focus on sustainable real estate careers. 

I am enthusiastic to continue my role as Chair in 2025. On behalf of the AREA Board of Directors and staff, we wish you a great holiday season and look forward to seeing many of you in person in 2025.
