Boards of Directors


Applications are now open for the AREA Board of Directors and the AREA Services Corp. Board of Directors for the 2026–2027 term.

Serving on an AREA board is a meaningful way to participate in organized real estate at the provincial level, share your expertise, and help guide the future of our profession.

To make applying easier, AREA has introduced a joint application form. Simply indicate whether you’re applying for one or both boards.

AREA Board of Directors


The AREA Board of Directors provides strategic leadership to advance Alberta’s real estate profession through member-focused services, advocacy, and professional development.

Time Commitment

• 5 in-person meetings each year (Calgary, Edmonton, Banff/Canmore)
• 1 full-day strategic planning session
• Ad hoc phone meetings as needed
• Service on 2 committees (approx. 5–10 hours per month; Executive positions 10–15 hours per month)

2026–2027 Vacancies

• Capital Representative (open to RAE members)
• Northern Representative (open to AWRA, FMREB, GPAAR members)
• Southern Representative (open to LDAR, MHREB, RASCA members)
• Director at Large (open to AWRA, CREB®, FMREB, GPAAR, LDAR, MHREB, RASCA members)

Key Competencies for 2026–2027 Term

Based on AREA's future direction, the Board of Directors has identified the following areas of expertise as key competencies for the 2026–2027 term. These areas of expertise will be given extra weight during the evaluation process.

• Business Management
• Finance & Accounting
• Government Relations
• Legal & Regulatory

Eligibility Requirements

• AREA member in good standing
• Licensed REALTOR® for at least 5 years
• Minimum of 2 years as a Director of a real estate board/association, or at least 5 years on local board committees, or equivalent governance experience
• Not holding a Director role with a member board/association for the same term
• Completion of CREA Leadership 100 before the term begins
• Not disqualified under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act

AREA Services Corp. Board of Directors


AREA Services Corp. delivers programs designed to save REALTORS® money and support business success. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of AREA, established in 2017. To learn more about Services Corp click here.

Time Commitment

• 4 online half-day meetings per year
• Approx. 2–5 hours per meeting

2026–2027 Vacancies (2 REALTOR® positions)

Key Competencies for 2026–2027 Term

Based on AREA Services Corp’s future direction, the Board of Directors is looking for real estate industry members whose significant business acumen positions them to understand the evolving challenges and opportunities facing REALTORS® across the country.   The positions are open to appointments of two real estate industry members from anywhere across Canada, the inclusion of members with established networks in Ontario and British Columbia will be particularly valuable in advancing national-scope programs.  These markets represent the strongest opportunities for growth, and Board members with direct business connections and experience in these regions will provide strategic advantage.

Eligibility Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of REALTOR® experience
• Minimum of 5 years of board/governance experience
• Not holding a Director role with a member board/association for the same term

Application & Selection Process


  1. Apply online using the joint application form (PDF available for reference).
  2. Include your resume.
  3. The Nominating Committee will review all applications.
  4. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a 30–45 minute interview.
  5. Final recommended candidates will be ratified by AREA’s Board of Directors.

Timelines

Applications Open: Mid-September – October 9
Review & Interviews: Mid-October – Late November
Notifications: Early December
Term Begins: Mid-January 2026

Nominating Committee


The process is managed by AREA’s Nominating Committee, which includes one representative from each region (Northern, Capital, Central, Foothills, Southern).

• For the AREA Board, members will be notified of the recommended list of candidates in mid-December. Objections can be raised before final approval at the AGM.
• For the Services Corp. Board, the candidate list is approved by AREA’s and Services Corp.’s Boards of Directors (member input not required).
